  • Nordic ballad dancing and singing. Music sessions at the Borghamn Strand restaurant afterward. Dinner is included in the Thursday night ticket price.

FRIDAY, August 18

  • Ballad traditions among the women of the nobility and of the common people by Anna Rynefors and Miriam Andersén from Kvinnolåt.
  • Norwegian Stev meets Latvian Dainas. Presented by Olaf Moen from Norway, Rūta Ķergalvi, and Ina Celitane from Latvia. The Kuldrum projekt.
  • Singarounds with ballad singers from near and far.

Workshops:

  • Ballad inspired picture making by Jenny Treece Jorup and Lillott Forsberg. Registration no later than Thursday 10 PM. 

His Highness’ Hallucinations” or ”The Winged Ones’ Wedding”. Welcome, with or without children, to a family friendly picture making workshop. Inspired by scenes in the ballads Hertig Magnus (Duke Magnus goes forth SMB26) or Bromsens bröllop (The Horsefly’s Wedding SMB 253) we build up collages using tissue paper and glue, and upcycling old wallpaper, wrapping paper and various other materials, all with a large pinch of playful imagination. Our creations can form a little exhibition, or why not a dance?

  • Ballad dance with Karen Petersen from Slaka Balladforum and Folkvisedandslaget.
  • Faroese ”kvad” dancing with Rasmus Joensen, Jónleif Johannesen, Rannvá á Stieg, Andrea Opielka, from Folkvisedanslaget.
  • ”Sessions” of Ballad dance, song, and musical jam with guest singers, dancers, and instrumentalists.
  • Lunch conversation with guest musicians/singers about bringing the ballads to the stage.
  • Sea shanties with Gunnar Nordlinder.

  • ”To get the text under your foot” by Andrea Opielka from Tyskland.
  • ”Gender, body, and power – cross-reading stories of contemporary relevance” by Ingrid Åkesson.
  • ”Vocal music within Swedish folk music year 2023 – about texts, status, and sisterhood” by Annika Hammer in conversation with Ulrika Gunnarsson. A collaboration with Lira musikmagasin.

SUNDAY, August 20

Free entrance! ”Music sessions” with communal ballad dancing and communal singing.

Plans for the future: Ceremony/Singaround by Bocka cemetery. Song to honor ”Bockarna” – the interned people who were forced to build the Göta canal. Possibility to donate to charity. Thanks for a great festival! Who wants to do the next Ballad Festival, in two or three years? FAREWELL!
